Activated

Description

Activated is a 20×16 acrylic painting that plays with both light and physical space to create an otherworldly sense of depth and energy. The piece features a torso with arms folded protectively across it, seen from the neck to the top of the ribs. Like other works in this series, the figure appears as a shell, cracking open to release raw power. However, this piece goes further—actual sections of the canvas have been cut out, revealing an inset backing about an inch deep, painted in intense fluorescent pink.

In natural light, the painting shifts between slate blue, teal, and pink, giving it a cool yet vibrant energy. Under blacklight, the fluorescent pink backing ignites, making the cut-out sections appear endless, like glowing portals of pure energy. The cracks and openings throughout the torso create a visual tension between containment and release, presence and absence. The illusion of infinite depth, combined with the glowing UV-reactive paint, makes Activated an arresting and dynamic statement piece, demanding attention in any light.
