Description
Three nude women, painted in cool tones, stare straight out at the viewer. They sit on a plinth built like a pyre, surrounded by flames in gouache. Before the fire went on, every resentment the artist couldn’t get out of her body was written by hand onto the areas that were later covered in flame. The words are still there under the paint, burned over but not erased. It’s the second panel in the four-painting series Relinquish: A Scene in Four Commands, alongside Release the girl, Exhale and soften, and Receive what comes. Original acrylic on canvas, 36″ x 36″.
